OPENING THE GATES (Part 3)
This month, we come to the third gate the Kingdom-minded Church is to enter: The Gate of Civil Government. As you know, this is an election year! Presently it appears that the Body of Christ is confused and somewhat divided concerning which candidates to support. The so-called value voters (conservatives and evangelicals) are presented in the public media as weakened and unable to make a difference in the upcoming presidential election. (This is what the mainstream media are hoping for!) We need to pray that the Body of Christ will come out of passivity and be activated in the gate to civil government! In Acts 12 we read of Peter’s arrest and imprisonment. In this incident we see the connection between the Church and the State. This is pictured in the two gates: (1) the iron gate connecting the prison to the city; and (2) the gate to the courtyard of Mary’s house where the Church was gathered in prayer. These gates speak of two authorities--the civil authority under Rome and the spiritual authority under heaven. Notice which authority prevailed when the angel of the Lord went into action to deliver Peter! Church, we need to cry out for supernatural intervention this year and we need to be activated in the political process--passivity is never a strategy! We understand there are no perfect candidates in a fallen world, but this must not keep us absent from the polls. If we stay home, we cannot complain about the results!
