PRESIDENTIAL PRAYER REQUESTS FOR THE WEEK OF DECEMBER 20-JANUARY 2, 2007

Note: The Presidential Prayer Team will not publish on December 27 to enable our staff to enjoy Christmas with their families. PRAY NOW will be updated regularly. Watch for a new edition January 3!
Merry Christmas!

President Bush took time on Christmas Eve to telephone several members of the military. He especially thanked them for their service and expressed concern for their families who are celebrating Christmas without them. Pray for our troops as they continue to place themselves in harm's way to bring freedom to others. Photo courtesy of the White House.

Pray for President Bush as he continues to work with leaders in the Middle East on the options and possibilities of peace, asking God to lead him and members of his team as they discern directions and solutions. Pray for God’s perfect will to be done, and pray for understanding on the part of all parties.

Give thanks for President and Mrs. Bush and their loved ones as they continue to celebrate Christmas together, asking God to give them great joy and blessing together during this holy season. They have enjoyed time at the Camp David, MD retreat and now are at the Crawford, TX ranch. Pray for great blessing, for physical and spiritual protection and for each one to experience the nearness of the Lord and to be drawn near to Him in great joy.

Give thanks that last Wednesday’s fire in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, attached to the White House, was extinguished quickly and did little damage. Pray for continued safety in this historic building in which many White House staffers have their offices, asking God to protect all who serve our nation through government service.

As Americans have paused to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ next week, pray for His name to be honored, asking God to draw our nation to Him. Pray for all hearts to pause and honor the miraculous plan of God for the world shown through the birth of Jesus.

Give thanks for the unanimous affirmation by the Senate of Dr. James Peake to the post of Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Pray for him as he steps up to lead this important department, asking God’s guidance and wisdom as he serves those who have faithfully served us by protecting and safeguarding our freedoms.

Pray for those who are struggling to get on their feet financially because of the downturn in housing or other industries, asking God to provide bountifully for each one, whether through a change of circumstance, benevolence or other means. Pray for their encouragement and for resourcefulness for all who struggle.

Pray for those on the margins of our society this Christmas, that they may have the support and help they need to celebrate the birth of Christ and to experience true freedom and life in Him. Pray for all agencies and ministries who seek to provide for the poor, addicted and abused, and pray for those capable of giving and serving to step up to minister in Jesus’ name this Christmas.

With only 8 days remaining until the Iowa Caucus, pray for the people of Iowa as they continue to consider each candidate, that they will be discerning, thoughtful and wise when they go to the polls. Pray for the candidates as they continue grueling schedules through the Christmas holiday, asking God to guide each one as they speak about their plans and views. Be sure to check out our Pray the Vote website to learn about the candidates and to get involved by praying for the upcoming elections.

Give thanks and praise to God for the “transfer of responsibility” ceremony held in Iraq last week in which responsibility for the security of Basra Province was transferred from British troops of the multi-national forces to local security—the ninth such turnover. Pray for such self-reliance to continue and for a spirit of peace and hopefulness to continue to grow in Iraq.

Pray for the brave men and women of our military who forego the pleasures of home and hearth to uphold freedom and humanity around the world. Pray for them to experience the nearness of God and for their loved ones to be comforted and supported by those who can do so. Pray for mothers raising children on their own, for parents concerned for the safety of their sons and daughters and pray for those in particularly stressful situations to be strengthened by God.
